It’s been a long time in coming back (we did one of these years ago) but search no more: we’re holding a Left 4 Dead 2 Survival Tournament. Where by there shall be you, three of your  friends, and zombies. Lots and lots of zombies.

The rules are simple enough:

  • Teams must be comprised of exactly 4 members (pick ups allowed, Game On! employees constitute fair game).
  • Each team gets three (3) attempts and only the best time is taken.
  • The team that survives the longest wins.
  • Map: The Waterfront (L4D2)
  • Play Mode: Survival

Event Date/Time: Saturday September 17th, 2011 starting at 4:00PM!

The Prize: 40 LAN Hours for the winning team (or 10 hours per person)!

There’s no entry fee, so come one, come all, and try your luck against THE ZOMBIE HORDE!

R.S.V.P available on Facebook.

Someone made the mistake of thinking that he had already made an official post for our upcoming Super Street Fighter IV (Arcade Edition) Tournament. That someone was wrong. Also me. So let’s fix it fast.

The stakes – are as follows:

Date: Saturday, September 10th
Time: 2:00PM (free play and registration starts at 1:00PM)
Entry: $2 venue fee / $5 entry

1st Prize: 70% of the pot
2nd Prize: 30% of the pot
(If turnout is considerable, payout will be 70/20/10)

Though we did decide to include venue fees for this tournament, I’d very much like to mention that every dollar made will be rolling into either the next tournament, or towards our three-year anniversary, which has recently begun to take (stellar) shape.

We’ll be playing again on PS3, though – through the assistance of several super generous and friendly members of the Extra Fresh League – we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be able to provide at least TWO console stations with monitors, with a third on standby (to be used for casuals) depending on attendance. We can also offer our two usual, generic Hori fighting sticks, but of course encourage you to bring your own (note: if you opt to bring a wireless PS3 controller, know that any accidental match interruptions will see immediate consequence).

As for the RULES:

• 99 seconds
• No handicap
• Best 2 of 3 games (game defined as standard 2 of 3 rounds)
• Double-elimination bracket
• If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.
• Winner may change ultra, but has to pick ultra first after loser picks character.
• You may not use any glitch that prevents the game from being played. This includes game freezing, game resetting, player freezing, etc.

And there you have it. Spread the word! R.S.V.P. on Facebook! See you there!

Love always,
Game On!

P.S. Suggestions and recommendations regarding tournament rules and/or structure are welcome, and should be sent to GameOnDenver@Gmail.com prior to date of event.

Alright people, there’s a lot to tell in this edition of “Damon talks too much, shut him up already”, so let’s just knock everything out – BING, BANG, BOOM!

That was a trailer for “Rebuild of Evangelion (1.0): You Are (Not) Alone”.

And THAT was the trailer for “Rebuild of Evangelion (2.0): You Can (Not) Advance”.

Courtesy of suggestion and provision via lovely store regular and friend, Talyhawk, we will be screening both of these amazing examples of animation tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sep. 2nd). Showtime is at 6:00 P.M. and absolutely FREE of charge.

Also, there will be popcorn.

POPCORN!

This upcoming Monday (Sep. 5th) is Labor Day. We’ve been going back and forth some on how, exactly, we wanted to take advantage of the holiday, when a serendipitous visit from our new neighbours(-down-the-road), Troll Country Games, brought us the news that THEY had some activities a-brewin’.

Troll Country Games

So, we are pleased to announce that we will be opening later in the afternoon on Labor Day (circa 3:00-4:00 P.M.) with a reduced day pass for our remaining open hours. Mind you, what we’d like is for all of you to actually meet us over at Troll Country Games earlier in the day and join in on the fun and food and frivolity. As we hear it told, there’s going to be table-top gaming, tournaments, some barbecue, chill company, and who knows what else? (We might even rustle up some console gaming as well.)

They’ll start serving up food sometime around 1:00 P.M. (additional servings past the first will cost extra), but the festivities and some of the tournaments (e.g. Warhammer and Magic) will start before that. (Click on their banner above to visit their site for full details.)

Once we’ve gotten our holiday on something fierce, we’ll all head back over here and get our Game On! something fiercer – as we so often do. Day passes will only cost $8 for the approximate six or so hours left in the day, and depending on our mood and energy, we might even stick it out a little later than usual.

We remain, of course, open to bribery.

Last, but most certainly not least, we have another tournament fast approaching. I’ll likely cobble together a stand-alone post for the tourney proper, but would like to knock out the initial details here. As follows..

SSFIVAE

Super Street Fighter IV (Arcade Edition) Tournament
Date: Saturday, September 10th
Time: 2:00 PM
Registration: Sign-up begins at 1:00 PM and will close at 1:45 PM
Console: PS3
Double-elimination (at least two tournament setups available)
$2 venue fee
$5 entry fee (70% to 1st, 30% to 2nd)

I’ll fully expand on all of this in the next day or two but would like to let the earlier announcements breathe some before we knock the post down.

Oh, one last thing..

TactiCon is going on this weekend and we’d like to point out that the aforementioned Troll Country Games has a table in the dealer’s room. Fans of all gaming not necessarily video related (e.g. D&D, board, CCG, RPG, table-top in general, et al) should swing by and check things out and, of course, avail yourself of the wares and services of our good friends over at Troll Country.

That’s all for now! We hope to see you this weekend for some anime viewings and popcorn gnoshings, and then again on Monday for holiday hangouts!

You see this guy?

That Guy

This is That Guy. He claims he can kick your ass. At Smash Bros 64. Yeah, that’s right. He was claiming just last week that he went undefeated against his friends, but I feel differently.

Pretty much all of you have played Smash at some point, and most of you who now love the game in its current state started out somewhere–and for most, it was the N64. Who could forget such memorable games such as Golden Eye, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Snap, and Super Smash Bros? Many hours wasted, arguments started, thrown controllers, divorces finalized, etc, etc, etc.

In honor of such a magnificent franchise, we are offering a free play day for that wonderful 64bit game (without the thrown controllers and broken systems, however feel free to waste many hours and we hold no accountability for divorces).

On Saturday, August 27th, come in any time after 3pm to just hang out and play the game with friends. We’ll go until we can’t handle it anymore, and if you’re lucky, maybe That Guy will make an appearance.

Omelette Prevail!

Well this one’s something of a doozy folks.

Have any of you heard of the Symphonic Anime Orchestra? Well they’ve heard of you and they’ve most certainly heard of this tournament, because they have decided to sponsor it with an incredibly generous donation of $225! That breaks down to an extra seventy-five dollars a person. Add that to our initial (and meager by comparison) twenty-five dollar payout and you are now looking at..

What’s that come to.. hmm.. carry the..

ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS per winning team member!

That’s right, thanks to this gratuitous display of wealth, folks planning on entering our upcoming League of Legends tournament can now count on a grand prize of $100 and eight free LAN hours per person. At only a five dollar entry, that’s one hell of a payout.

This thing just got serious.

Now, some info about our benefactors:

Symphonic Anime Orchestra

“The Symphonic Anime Orchestra is excited to be sponsoring [the better] part of Game On!’s League of Legends tournament. SAO is a fan based orchestra that plays anime and video game music at conventions across the US! Check out our website to learn more or buy our CD.”

The fellow what contacted us about this super-supplemental sponsorship has long been a friend of the store and once helped us resolve a nasty little issue we were having with our onboard audio by contributing a slew of soundcards on behalf of Friday Night FragFest.

By all means, check out the Symphonic Anime Orchestra and if you like what you see (and hear, hurr), be sure to pick up a digital copy of their album and keep an eye on their happenings.

Also, let’s all be sure to say THANK YOU!
